Visit Store: phrey The analysis The analysis was carried out chiefly from the point of view of the key issues in the external policy of the Jagiellon monarchy; the analysis also focused on the reactions of the participants of the Council to the activities of the Polish delegation.
Although the author agrees with the opinions that the Polish Kingdom did achieve an image success in Constance, yet he is of the opinion that the success played a secondary role as regards real-life events which took place in Central Europe; he also thinks that the success tends to be exagerated by Polish historiography. Apart from a narrow group of intellectuals, the contention between Poland and the Teutonic Order was of little interest to the Council participants, and hence he comes to the conclusion that military activities were a much more effective weapon in the defense of Polish-Lithuanian interests.
Although without a doubt, Jagiello and Witold overestimated the significance of the Council in respect of solving the conflict with the Teutonic Order, yet they achieved a tangible success which consisted in a change of perception of their states as well as subjects by the contemporary European elites. Therefore, the author puts forward a hypothesis that the mission of the delegation of the Ja-giellon monarchy to the Council of Constance was one of those episodes in the history of Poland and Lithuania, which constitutes a permanent legacy of common historical identity.
Pandemie i epidemie przez wieki more. The book analyzes a group of Polish bishops from various aspects among other things, their church career and political importance. But the This publication reviews also the relations between polish bishops and the Kingdom of Poland.
Their request were never turned down for fear that a frustrated Poland may slip into the rival obedience. Of all periods when Poland belonged to the obedience of an anti-popse the period is the most abundantly documented. In the last great medieval schism the Kingdom of Poland remained officially neutral, although the top church dignitaries gave their backing to Felix V, elected at the Council of Basle.

This book describes the activity of the oldest Fraternity of the Rosary in Wadowice, which was established which was established in by the foundation of the burgher Jakub Wierczkowic. The Fraternity of the Rosary was an institution The Fraternity of the Rosary was an institution that gathered not only some of the inhabitants of this small city in Lesser Poland, but also people from neighboring communities who represented various states: the clergy, the nobility, and the common folk.
Its activity focused not only on Marian piety, which flourished in the post-Tridentine period. The origins of such organizations reach back to secular fraternities that were founded in late antiquity and in the Middle Ages. Unfortunately, the foundation charter of the Fraternity of the Rosary in Wadowice has not been found, although it is known that in order for it to have been written the approval of the bishop of Krakow and the superiors of the Dominican Order were necessary. Formally , the Dominican Order was the patron of the Wadowice fraternity from the beginning of its existence, as was the case with other Fraternities of the Rosary; however, in archival materials the traces of the Dominicans' control over this fraternity were only sporadic in the seventeenth century, on the occasion of the election of the fraternity's authorities.

The author provides a broad overview of Jan Hus as reformer, theologian and martyr. The emphasis is on the connection between Wycliffe and the Bohemian roots from which Hus drew. This so-called Moderni Devoce had surprising similarities with the contemporary Dutch lay movement Devotio Moderna, which at its zenith had more than one hundred monasteries and houses for laity in Central and Western Europe.
The preaching was in the Czech language from the very start and not in Latin, and also not with the back to the people in the church, as is customary in the Church of that time. See list of literature at the bottom. With heartfelt gratitude to dr. Bob Duijvestijn Hilvarenbeek, the Netherlands , Prof. Armin Kohnle and his assistant Eike Thomsen Uni Leipzig Germany for the valuable recommendations and their critical but inspiring comments. He was able to win the hearts of his listeners by consequently preaching in the vernacular.
She was a friend of Hus and he was her personal confessor3. With such remarks, Hus and his adherents risked their personal freedom, especially when questioning the leaders of the Church. Such a question is obviously explosive for the establishment of the Church. Always and everywhere, Joannes de Hussynecz points to the Bible as the sole source for deriving guidelines and making decisions within the Church.
The Bible is the major paradigm for life and its highest 3 Kriegsman, 54 4 Hus also needed the walls in order to publish excerpts of the text.
It is said that Hus wrote this tract for priests and for students so they could defend themselves against the heresy of the selling of indulgences, whereby the Latin verses attached to the walls of the Bethlehem Chapel could help recognize and assess basic misconceptions about creation, belief, forgiveness of sins, obedience, excommunication, and the selling of indulgences. The name Bohemia can be etymologically explained as given by God; boh a in Czech means God. Wycliffe, a great advocate for the Gospel in the vernacular, was probably influenced by the ideas of the Cathars and Bogomils.
Plagiarism was still unknown back then. This would later become the reason why the description of the Wycliffites would be equal to that of the Hussites6.
This metaphor of the bread also occurs in the name of the Bethlehem Chapel. In contrast, the contemporary Church was an enactment of hypocrisy and the playground of the Antichrist for them.
Erroneously, some paragraphs of his work were attributed to Jan Hus. He the undaunted propagation that the human being can still choose between good and evil, and that no divine intervention is necessary. Nestorius distinguished the divine and human qualities of Jesus, was condemned as a heretic during the Council of Ephesus, and died while in exile.
He founded the Nestorian Church. Magnum Oecumenicum Constantiense concilium, Frankfurt and Leipzig , vol. I would sincerely like to thank prof. Armin Kohnle for the reference to this elegant little book. He programmatically named his community the New Jerusalem, contrary to the Old Babylon — the latter to describe the contemporary Church. We also have four key figures of the so-called pre- Hussite movement in view. All four of them strived to be great and fought for a restoration of early Christianity, and also a reading of the Bible in the vernacular.
The text in Latin is a dialogue pater-filius that illustrates the mystical purification process of the incipientes the novice on the via purgativa the road of purification , the proficientes the advanced on the via illuminativa the 10 Waldhauser was originally born in Austria and was well-versed in both Latin and German. Two functional elements are being expressed in the above-mentioned verses: renovare and multiplicare.
The juice of the pomegranate symbolizes renovation; the numerous seeds of the fruit stand for the multiplying power. Gerwing Here we can see a broad support for community between the Malogranatum and the Imitatio Christi of the Dutch Devotio Moderna.
They led to strict adherence to the monastic rule, especially when it comes to the vow of poverty. Any private property was strictly forbidden.
Secluded cells were allowed for monks for better study opportunities.
