Nat ran the company overall, LeRoy ran the manufacturing side. His office was decorated elaborately with Louis XVI type furnishings and he dressed to the nines.
When he used to arrive at the PGA Merchandise Show each day, it was in his own chauffeur driven limo. It was almost like royalty arriving when Nat pulled up to the front doors of the show! For some reason, the two brothers became at odds with each other over some issues and LeRoy left the company I think in the late 80s or very early 90s.
But it was really when Nat's son took over the business, that, well, it didn't hum and that spelled the beginning of the end for the company. Thanks for the update Tom! Very informative! Your brain is like a golf club manufacturer's encyclopedia. Bunch of my friends had them. Going to keep my eye's open for some of those Thunderbirds. Thanks again. My first golf clubs were Northwesterns. This is when I first started getting into golf. I couldnt really hit them and they really stung on mishits.
Then I went and got some Big Bertha clones after my friends got into golf. I think they are still sitting at my friends house. I will have to check next time I am there. My first driver was a ladies Northwestern. It was made of wood and stained dark blue.
I think it's in my mothers garage. I've still got them! Forged muscle back blades and molded plastic woods! Hello Nessissm, I can give you somewhat of an update on Northwestern. Last week, Nat Rosasco Senior passed away. I met him once when I was at Doral. I believe it was around ' I took my teacher "Chico" Miartuz to Doral who taught me golf from an early age. Chico had a company called Chico's Tomahawk.
He designed wedges, sandwedges, putters dring the 's. Nat was friends with Chico and Northwestern produced Chico's designs which can still be found but are few and far between.
It is true what they say about about the large dinners and gatherings he used to have. After a day of being at Doral, the whole group went to eat together, maybe ten of us or more. It was a long dinner but enjoyable. I don't know what the bill was but you could have probably made a down payment on a car for the same amount. I know that Northwestern was sold and I believe it was to a British group. I will post some pictures of the Wedges Chico designed which Northwestern funded the production for in the classic forum under persimmon golf.
They are something to see. Best Regards, Lefty. Very informative. Back in , a guy from my High School golf team went head to head with Freddy Couples in a high school match and if I remember correctly he either tied him or beat him with his Northwestern "Chi Chi Rodriguez signature" clubs. I had the same set and played them thru HS. Bought them with money that I made doing odd jobs. Jobs like mowing the neighbor's lawn and cutting firewood.
Do teenagers still do odd jobs like that? They don't in my town. Couldn't find one to do any odd jobs if I tried. I caddied for Dave Barr in a Canadian Tour event a few years ago and he still uses a mixed bag of Northwestern forged blades I believe he had bits of 4 different sets in the bag Northwestern was his club sponsor all through his pro career.
Nat was without question the last "character" in the golf equipment business, one about whom you could say really was larger than life. A couple of my best memories of things in my life in the golf equipment business can be attributed to Nat Sr. In when I was doing research for my first book, The Golf Club Identification and Price Guide, a big part of the book was to be a somewhat detailed synopsis of all the equipment companies who were going to have their club models listed in the book.

Up For Your Playing Pleasure. The Wedge has less then average wear with no bag marks and it has Excellent Punch Marks; The club is kind of UNIQUE in that it has an actual"gentil step" in the lower face to create an almost concave look to it! At first I thought it was excessive wear that created the step but it was much too even all the way across the face and the"Lower Punch Mark Face did not show any more wear then the top half; It really helps add loft when you are close in or chipping; The only wear is confined to the lower face of the club and what there is.
Is less then average for a Sand Wedge; This model has probably about 8 Degrees of bounce, which allows the club to be played quite effectivly from the sand, Hawaii, California, Washington, Oregon and all of Zone 8 will be recomputed, if need be, at the time of the auctions close!
