If you know Adobe Reader is installed but cannot open a pdf file by double clicking on the filename, try the five steps below. You should see a dialog with a bunch of options. Move the mouse pointer down to "Open With" and click on it.

There will be an option like "always open with," check that box. Move the mouse pointer down to the Adobe Reader icon and click it. If this doesn't helps, I request you to uninstall and re-install Adobe reader. I hope this helps you. If you have any further query in future, feel free to contact us. We will be happy to help you. Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn't help. Thanks for your feedback. Alan is correct: if you use Adobe Reader as the default pdf reader, no pdf file thumbnails will be shown in Explorer.

BTW: cannot confirm the same for e. Foxit Reader. Apparently, there is no fix by Adobe reported it in Adobe forums way back.. Threats include any threat of suicide, violence, or harm to another.

This problem is still there WP 5. Used to work fine for posting pdf Newsletters to the site. Same issue on Dreamhost Dreampress running WordPress 5. Thumbnails are generated for jpg uploads but not pdf uploads. This requires an extra step but is our current work-around. It is interesting that it was working on the legacy era hosting plan but seemed to break when moving to the current hosting plan. The installation on the legacy site was 5. This implies that there may be some issue related to underlying software dependencies.
