Ok, so you just got that deck, now either you let the shop grip it for you or you decided to take your hand at gripping it yourself. If you let the shop grip it for you, after reading this guide, you may want to try it yourself. You also will want to find a nice flat, clear surface. So, you have your board, your sheet of grip tape, your razor blade, and your file. What do you do first? First we will get the sheet of grip on the board. There are two common ways to do this.
The way I do it, and most other people do it, is to peel the grip off the backing like a big sticker. Once all of the sticky side is exposed, place the grip on the board. Try to keep the edges of the grip parallel to the edges of the board. Push the grip onto the board. After that, take the back of your grip tape and place it over the board. Take the palms of your hands and push outward from the center of the board to the nose a tail. This takes out any air bubbles you may have had in the beginning.
Once your board looks free of air bubbles, we can move on to step two. This way is not shown in the picture below.
The other way people put their grip on the board is to start at one end and peel as you go. Ok, to make sense of this. First, you peel of a portion of the grip backing.
You place the sticky end on the nose or the tail. You work your way to the opposite end Again, nose or tail depending on where you started. This way is shown in the picture below. Once you have your grip on, your going to need to file the edges.
This is a very simple step, but I feel it is extremely important. Do this nicely, and cutting the grip will be a whole lot easier. Take your file, and push hard along the edges of the board. Buy Krux Downlow Ltd Usk 3.
